Jimmy Johnson
Hall of Famer, Former Player, Coach, Executive, and AP NFL Coach of the Year, Analyst for Fox NFL Sunday
Jimmy Johnson is a Pro Football Hall of Famer, FOX NFL SUNDAY analyst, and one of the most respected figures in both NFL and college football coaching history. As a key member of the FOX NFL SUNDAY team alongside Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, and Michael Strahan, Jimmy brings decades of football expertise and insights to millions of fans every Sunday.
Inducted into the 2020 Pro Football Hall of Fame Centennial Class, Jimmy is widely regarded for his legendary tenure as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, where he orchestrated back-to-back Super Bowl victories in Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XXVIII. As the Cowboys' head coach from 1989 to 1994, he led the team to a dominant period of success, winning NFL Coach of the Year honors in three of his final four seasons, including a franchise-record 13 regular-season victories in 1992. Under his leadership, the Cowboys posted a 50-22 regular-season record and went 7-1 in postseason play.
Jimmy’s coaching legacy extends beyond the NFL. He also won a College Football National Championship with the University of Miami in 1987, where he coached for five seasons, compiling a 52-9 record, two Orange Bowl titles, and two No. 2 national rankings. Notably, Jimmy became the first coach in history to win both a Super Bowl and a National Championship, a feat later matched by Barry Switzer. His coaching journey began in 1965 as a defensive line coach at Louisiana Tech, before moving on to Wichita State, Iowa State, Oklahoma, and Pittsburgh. In 1979, Jimmy became head coach at Oklahoma State, where he posted a 29-25 record and led the team to two bowl appearances.
After his historic run with the Cowboys, Jimmy was named head coach and general manager of the Miami Dolphins in 1996, succeeding the legendary Don Shula. Over four seasons, Jimmy guided the Dolphins to three playoff berths, compiling a 36-28 regular-season record and a 2-3 mark in the postseason. He retired from coaching in 2000, with an 80-64 career record in the NFL and a 9-4 postseason record.
Following his coaching career, Jimmy transitioned to a long and successful career in broadcasting, joining FOX Sports as an analyst on the FOX NFL SUNDAY pregame show. His impact on the network was significant, contributing to the show's induction into the National Association of Broadcasters' (NAB) Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2019.
Jimmy Johnson’s legacy as a two-time Super Bowl champion coach, national championship-winning collegiate coach, and Hall of Fame inductee has solidified him as one of football’s greatest minds. His ability to connect with fans and share his unparalleled football wisdom makes him a revered figure both on and off the field.
