Mike Eruzione is best known for his leadership as the captain of the U.S. Men's Ice Hockey Team that pulled off one of the most incredible upsets in sports history—winning the gold medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. The team's victory is famously known as the "Miracle on Ice" after defeating the heavily favored Soviet Union team in a historic match. Eruzione's famous goal in the game against the Soviet Union, which gave the U.S. a 4-3 lead, is etched in Olympic lore.
