Scott Hamilton
Four-time world champion and the 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist men’s figure skating
Scott Hamilton is the most recognized male figure skating star in the world, with a career that spans over decades and includes 70 titles, awards, and honors. His accolades include an Emmy Award nomination, induction into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame, and membership in the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
In 1984, Scott captured the world’s attention with his Olympic Gold medal performance in Sarajevo. Since then, he has continued to inspire audiences as a commentator, performer, producer, and best-selling author. His books include Fritzy Finds a Hat (2020), Finish First: Winning Changes Everything (2018), The Great Eight (2009), and Landing It (1999). As a speaker and humanitarian, Scott shares his deep passion for figure skating while motivating others with his personal journey.
Scott’s resilience is even more remarkable given the challenges he has faced in his personal life. After losing his mother to cancer, he himself became a cancer survivor and a pituitary brain tumor survivor. This life-changing experience led him to become a passionate advocate for cancer research and survivorship. In 2004, Scott founded the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation (Cancer Alliance for Research, Education, and Survivorship), which supports vital research and provides education and resources for cancer patients and survivors. Through initiatives such as Chemocare.com and the 4th Angel Mentoring Program, Scott’s foundation has made a significant impact on cancer care.
Scott has also become a leader in the fight against cancer through events like Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer and An Evening with Scott Hamilton & Friends, which raise crucial funds for cancer research. These programs support efforts to develop treatments that can cure cancer while minimizing harm to patients.
In addition to his philanthropic work, Scott is the founder of the Scott Hamilton Skating Academy, located at the Ford Ice Centers in Antioch and Bellevue, TN. There, he coaches aspiring skaters, helping them develop their skills and sharing his enduring love for the sport. When he’s not skating or mentoring, Scott enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife, Tracie, and their four children at their home in Nashville, Tennessee.
