Foster Harvard-educated Executive Dealmaker, Resilience Leader, Blind Black Diamond Skier Imagine losing your sight at 21 years old—never seeing another sunset, your spouse, or your children. Now, imagine emerging from that experience with an even clearer vision for life, living more fully and achieving greater success than before. I don’t have to imagine that—that’s my story. While many victims remain trapped by adversity, I chose to become a visionary. After losing my sight, I became the first blind executive to graduate from Harvard Business School’s Leadership Program, developed software that Silicon Valley thought was impossible, and helped generate billions of dollars in business while empowering millions of people worldwide to succeed. Now, I share my journey of resilience and transformation, teaching others how to turn obstacles into opportunities. I teach what I’ve learned: that the overcomer mindset is the key to resilience, success, and achieving beyond your circumstances. I’ve seen firsthand how adversity can be transformed into advantage, and that’s why I say—losing my vision was worth it if it means I can help others find theirs. In my recently published book, Blind Ambition, and through my high-impact keynote and workshop programs, I deliver actionable strategies to individuals and organizations looking to improve their resilience and overcome their challenges. - Joel Zeff
Workplace Expert, Author, Humorist Joel Zeff Workplace Expert, Author, Humorist Joel Zeff creates energy. As a dynamic speaker, improvisational humorist, and author, he brings his audiences to life with interactive performances that encourage participation in hilarious improvisational exercises. These exercises illustrate his central message: organizations and individuals should CELEBRATE everyday successes to boost collaboration, productivity, passion, and innovation. Since 1997, Joel has inspired audiences at companies such as Wells Fargo, Samsung, KPMG, and even the IRS—yes, the IRS. Joel is a masterful public speaker and a nationally renowned motivator, lifelong humorist, and improvisational actor. His career is a pursuit of fun and passion. He first discovered the importance of both in his early jobs delivering newspapers and cleaning up trash at a suburban movie theater. Joel’s professional career began in journalism and public relations. In 1994, he transitioned to corporate communications, helping clients with employee communications, media relations, strategy, and customer marketing. Over time, he realized that his clients—many from high-level technology and telecommunications firms—needed more than just marketing strategies. They were hungry for fun, passion, and fresh perspectives on finding success. At the same time, Joel was pursuing comedy on the weekends. Through friends, he discovered improvisational comedy. One of his clients, a large technology company, knew about his weekend comedy gigs and asked him to perform some improvisational games for a group of high-level executives. He brought a fellow comedian along, and thus began his corporate speaking career. Joel connects with his audiences using humor so powerful that it leaves them laughing until their mascara runs, cheeks hurt, and bellies ache. He invites volunteers from the audience to join him on stage and play improvisation games—something many have never done before. He expects nothing less than their success, challenging them to focus, collaborate as a team, communicate effectively, and take responsibility. His presentation, Make the Right Choice, is a mix of humor, inspiration, and practical business insights. Joel’s goal is not just to make you laugh, but also to make you think. The talk provides significant ideas to help audience members reconnect with their passion and drive for success. As outlined in his book, Make the Right Choice , Joel believes that we all face choices in our careers and lives. Every day offers an opportunity to make the right choice to live a more creative, passionate, and productive life. How do you make the right choice? By choosing to provide opportunity, offer positive support, and most importantly, by choosing to have fun. It’s that simple—and Joel shows us how. Outside of speaking, Joel channels his creativity as an actor, writer, and comedian. He began performing professionally in 1992 and was co-host of The Movie Zone on UPN 21 in Dallas. He has appeared in dozens of commercials for clients such as Dallas Cowboys, Harrah’s Casino, Time Warner Cable, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, and many others. - Dr. Bertice Berry, Sociologist, Lecturer, Author and Mother
When You Walk with Purpose, You Collide with Destiny Dr. Bertice Berry, Sociologist, Lecturer, Author and Mother When You Walk with Purpose, You Collide with Destiny No one defies stereotypes, generalizations or clichés more than Dr. Bertice Berry. Growing up poor in Wilmington, Delaware, the sixth of seven children, Bertice was told by a high school teacher that she was “not college material”. Fortunately, there was another teacher who believed that she was destined for more. Berry applied to several schools without any idea how she would pay the tuition if she were accepted. The day her application arrived at Jacksonville University in Florida, a wealthy benefactor called the Admissions Department looking for a potential student “who could swim if they had the right backing,” and might sink without it. Bertice not only graduated magna cum laude from Jacksonville where she was awarded the President’s Cup for leadership, she subsequently earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from Kent State University at the age of 26. Dr. Berry taught sociology and statistics at Kent, and demonstrated that she knew a few things about humor, as well. She became one of the most popular teachers at the university; so popular, in fact, larger lecture halls had to be found to accommodate the ever-increasing number of students. A colleague said to me, “You’re funny, and I said, No I’m not, I’m a scholar,” recounts Dr. Berry. It was then that she realized by using humor in her lectures to address such difficult subjects as racisms and sexism she was making a more profound impact. Shortly thereafter, Berry left Kent to become an award-winning entertainer, lecturer and comedienne. From 1991 through 1994 she won the coveted national Comedian of the Year Award, and was also named Campus Lecturer of the Year and Campus Entertainer of the Year. She had created a niche as both a gifted speaker with a comic edge and a comic with a serious message. Her busy schedule included over 200 appearances a year. Berry was the host and co-executive producer of her own nationally syndicated talk show, “The Bertice Berry Show,” and hosted “USA Live,” a four-hour live interview and entertainment show on the USA Cable Network. She’s been featured on numerous other television programs, including appearances on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” ABC’s “20/20” and more recently on NPR’s “Tell Me More” with Michel Martin. Dr. Bertice Berry is also the best-selling author of an inspirational memoir, I’m On My Way, But Your Foot Is On My Head, and the hilarious bestsellers Straight From the Ghetto, You Might Be Ghetto If and the sequel You STILL Ghetto. Her latest book, “A Year to Wellness and Other Weight Loss Secrets” is a personal journey of healing and wellness that resulted in a weight loss of 150 lbs. Despite all of her honors and achievements, Dr. Berry is most proud of becoming the “instant mother” to her five children. She lives in Savannah, GA where she is active in the community. “When you walk with purpose,” Berry says, “you collide with destiny!” TOPICS Change & Transformation Redefining Diversity Becoming The Highest Version of Yourself From The Patient’s Perspective Finding Your Purpose Life Work Balance Redefining Diversity From The Patient’s Perspective Life Work Balance BOOKS The World According to Me I’m on My Way But Your Foot Is On My Head Redemption Song The Haunting of Hip Hop Jim & Louella’s Home-made Heartfix Remedy When Love Calls You Better Answer The Ties That Bind A Year to Wellness and Other Weight Loss Secrets PAST CLIENTS America Online Pacific Bell GMAC Sam’s Club/Walmart Agilent Technologies Blue Cross Blue Shield KU Medical Center Kaiser Permanente American Airlines Walmart

- Dan Jansen
American Speedskater, 1994 Winter Olympics Gold Medalist Dan Jansen American Speedskater, 1994 Winter Olympics Gold Medalist Dan Jansen is an iconic figure in the world of speed skating, known not only for his incredible athleticism but also for his resilience and determination in the face of adversity. By the time of the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Jansen had already established himself as one of the sport's greatest competitors, with seven overall World Cup titles and seven world records to his name. However, his Olympic journey had been marked by heartbreak and disappointment. Jansen’s first Olympic appearance came in 1984, where he finished a heartbreaking fourth place in the 500m. He returned in 1988 as one of the favorites, but tragedy struck on the morning of the 500m event when his sister, Jane, passed away from leukemia. Despite the personal loss, Jansen attempted to race but fell in both the 500m and the 1,000m, leaving him empty-handed. In 1992, Jansen once again entered the Olympics as a favorite, but despite his skill, he could do no better than fourth place in the 500m and 26th in the 1,000m, further deepening his Olympic frustration. As he entered the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Jansen was the overwhelming favorite in the 500m event. However, in a cruel twist of fate, he slipped during his race and finished eighth, yet again falling short of an Olympic medal. At that point, Jansen had competed in seven Olympic events over the span of a decade without securing a single medal. But Jansen's story was far from over. His final chance for Olympic glory came in the 1,000m event, where six of his opponents had better times. Despite the odds, Jansen skated with remarkable focus and determination. He was on world-record pace when he stumbled during the penultimate turn. With incredible composure, he steadied himself and surged forward, ultimately crossing the finish line in 1:12.43, setting a new world record and winning his first-ever Olympic gold medal. Jansen’s triumph in Lillehammer was not just a victory in speed skating but a testament to the power of perseverance, turning years of heartbreak into an unforgettable moment of redemption.
